Naomi James

Dame Naomi James was the first woman to sail single-handedly around the world via Cape Horn. Her journey started from Dartmouth, UK on September 9, 1977, taking her over 27,000 nautical miles around the globe and ending back in Dartmouth, UK on June 8, 1978.

The Express Crusader, a 53 foot cutter built by Southern Ocean Shipyard, was lent to Naomi by Chay Blyth to sail single-handedly around the world. Naomi’s journey is unique as she was the first women to sail the clipper route, navigating the treacherous three capes, whereas others transited the Panama and Suez Canals.

Naomi wrote a book documenting her single-handed sailing adventure, At One with the Sea: Alone Around the World, which was first published in 1980. The book detailed her journey, including nearly losing her mast, capsizing, and having no radio for weeks at a time.

To honor Dame Naomi James and the history and importance of her single-handed sail around the world, we created a Trusted Sailing Resume from the details Naomi provided in her book. The underlying logbook transactions that make up Naomi’s Trusted Sailing Resume form the third block of the Sailing Resume Blockchain. No other transactions from any users are included in this block. It will forever be only Naomi’s historic trip, which we believe makes a significant tribute and historical record of Naomi’s important accomplishment and contribution to sailing.

All the raw transaction data on the Sailing Resume Blockchain is human readable JSON. This includes excerpts from Naomi’s book detailing each leg of her trip logged as notes on each transaction in her Trusted Sailing Resume.

Building upon the Charter Rode NFT Collection, we created a Non Fungible Token (NFT) from the raw JSON data of the Sailing Resume Blockchain third block honoring Dame Naomi James. There is, and only ever will be, a single NFT that has been created by Charter Rode of the Sailing Resume Blockchain third block. The original wallet address that minted this NFT was included in a comment by the founder of Charter Rode on his Trusted Sailing Resume. This transaction is included in the fourth block of the Sailing Resume Blockchain ensuring the uniqueness of the NFT.
